To better understand how this works in practice, let’s look at a concrete example of a company with a network of 50 stores:

The whole process begins with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who creates a budget model in Fabric Planning. It relies directly on the very same Power BI semantic model that serves daily sales reports. As a result, all historical data – such as individual store revenues and cost – is available right out of the box, eliminating the need for any manual exports.

Next, regional managers open the Planning Sheet. This interface looks and feels like the familiar Excel, but under the hood, it connects directly to the central database. Each manager sees only their assigned stores, where they input sales forecasts, promotions, and seasonal adjustments.
