Almost a year ago, Microsoft presented the first version of a comprehensive platform for integration, processing, analysis and creation of advanced reports – Microsoft Fabric [1]. As DataRiseLab, we have been closely following the development of this service and the changes introduced by the manufacturer from the very beginning. Microsoft Fabric is a solution that intrigued us with its potential. The platform consists of a number of components [2], [3]:
- OneLake
- Synapse Data Warehouse
- Synapse Data Engineering
- Synapse Data Science
- Real-Time Intelligence
- Data Factory
- Data Activator
- Power BI
A place to store all your analytical data within MS Fabric.
Warehouse supporting multi-table transactions.
A service that enables the creation of extensive ETL pipelines and large-scale data analysis.
It allows you to create, train, and deploy machine learning models at scale by integrating technologies and tools that simplify the processes of analyzing data and building AI models.
A service for analyzing and visualizing data in real time. It turns data into a dynamic resource that allows for making decisions and taking actions “here and now”.
It offers a wide range of functionalities allowing for building end-to-end workflows, enriching data and improving their quality, but above all, integrating various data sources.
A ‘no-code’ service that allows you to monitor, analyse, process and automatically respond to detected changes in data based on defined patterns and thresholds.
It enables data visualization by creating reports and dashboards.

Combining these services into one platform brings many benefits, including:
- consistency of the solution,
- increased scalability and flexibility,
- the ability to analyze data in real time,
- cost optimization,
- supporting a data-driven organizational culture,
- a wide range of integration methods.
Therefore, in our new project, which involves creating a Data-driven solution for an investment fund that owns many companies, we have used the MS Fabric solution. This action allows us to solve the following design challenges:
- integration of data from various sources thanks to advanced ETL processes in Data Factory,
- scalability of infrastructure with the increase in the number of companies in the fund’s investment portfolio and their organic growth (and thus the increase in data),
- flexibility of the solution, allowing for easy expansion and adding new elements,
- application of the best available methods in the area of data security and compliance,
- cost optimization by using a single pool of resources,
- optimization of data processing and analysis,
- supporting the development of a data-driven work culture by creating advanced reports in PowerBi and unifying data,
- preparing data for advanced data analysis and opening the fund to analyze data using AI.
MS Fabric is a relatively new platform, but every day it becomes a more and more serious player in the world of data. The development of each of the services introduces new solutions and improves the methods of analysis, service, and above all, use of data in the daily functioning of the organization. The impact of MS Fabric and its components on the decision-making processes of teams and companies will constantly grow, leading many of them to become true ‘Data-Driven organization’.
